The Science of Adipose Tissue

Adipose tissue is far more than stored fat. It’s one of the body’s richest accessible sources of the components used for repair: extracellular matrix, regenerative cells (SVF), viable adipocytes, and the growth factors that support tissue repair. Soft-tissue Layers

Different tissue layers have different biological needs. Matching the right tissue fraction to the right layer enables more targeted tissue restoration.

Dermis

The dermis depends on structural support. A concentrate containing more extracellular matrix – including collagen and elastin – helps restore the skin scaffold, supporting firmness, elasticity, and skin quality.

Subcutis

The subcutaneous layer depends on durable volume. Grafting 1.5× more viable adipocytes – smaller, more robust, and stripped of free oil – supports improved graft survival and volume retention.

Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is more than mechanical wear. Matrix degradation, chronic inflammation, and altered tissue signalling all contribute to progressive joint damage.
Most intra-articular treatments primarily address symptoms rather than supporting the biological environment of the joint (Pereira 2025).
This helps explain why microfragmented adipose tissue (MFAT) has shown durable results in knee osteoarthritis (Zaffagnini 2022; Screpis 2022).
